Foreshadowing a new chapter

It’s official. I just sent off the following email to my headmaster and other trusted/connected colleagues. The journey begins.

Dear colleagues,

I wanted to take a few moments before the year officially begins to inform you that the 2012-2013 school year will be my last at Lawrenceville. I know I am letting you know rather early, and I’m doing so for my own organization and planning’s sake. In recent years I’ve grown anxious for change and would like to see myself in another field of work after I depart from Lawrenceville. I’ve lived on Lawrenceville’s campus for over a third of my life, so It’s easy for me to call it home. Perhaps: too easy, and now I’m ready for something new. Ideally I would like to be abroad, working in a developing country for an NGO or non-profit, doing something that benefits local communities directly. While such work might involve education, I don’t imagine that I’ll spend my time teaching in a school.
I hope that giving you this information now will not only benefit you in your own hiring processes at Lawrenceville, but also I would ask that you keep my situation in mind as you may hear about opportunities or know some information that might be pertinent to my search.
Thanks, and see you all in a few days,
Sheamus
If any of you tumblr buddies come upon anything good to lead me on this journey — let me know, please! I’m building a list of leads and I need all the help I can get.
